Black History Month Supreme Court Justice Panel | Feb. 28, 2019
February 28, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm EST
In honor of Black History Month, the Capital City Lawyers Association is hosting a panel discussion featuring the three African-American justices that currently serve on the Supreme Court of North Carolina, Justice Cheri Beasley, Justice Michael Morgan, and Justice Anita Earls.
A study conducted by the Brennan Center for Justice revealed that in 2016, just 13 percent of state supreme court justices were people of color and 24 state supreme courts did not have a single person of color on its bench. Likewise, 11 state supreme courts had only one or no female justices. Given these facts, we are even more proud of the diverse representation on our highest court and want to celebrate that this month.
Please join us on February 28, 2019 at 6 p.m. at the Seby Jones Fine Arts Theater at Saint Augustine’s University, 1315 Oakwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27610, to honor our Supreme Court of North Carolina Justices this Black History Month. The discussion will focus on their paths to success and the importance of African-Americans and women in leadership.
Reception with light hors d’oeurves to follow sponsored by K&L Gates, McGuireWoods, Parker Poe, Young Moore & Henderson, American Constitution Society North Carolina Lawyers Chapter, and the North Carolina Association of Black Lawyers.
Free event. Open to the Public. Please click here to RSVP if you plan to attend.
